MHRD sponsored 2 day national seminar on scientific and technical terminology in science and technology at DAVIET

Jalandhar, September 13, 2017: An MHRD sponsored 2 days National Seminar on Scientific and Technical Terminology in Science and Technology was organized here in the DAVIET campus on Wednesday by the Department of Applied Sciences. The intellectual force behind the seminar was the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, MHRD. The seminar aimed at promoting the use of Scientific and Technical Terminology in Hindi and other regional languages.
Dr.Kanchan L.Singh, Head Department of Applied Sciences in her address highlighted the need to popularize the use of Hindi in scientific and technical terminology. She stressed upon the fact that although the challenges in this endeavour are numerous yet we all have to take the initial step which will go a long way in enabling the masses to take up scientific education as a carrier option.
Er. Jai Singh Rawat, Seminar in charge, talked about the initiatives taken up by CSTT for the spread of Hindi and other regional languages as a medium of instruction for scientific education. He showed a video highlighting the importance of promoting the national language.
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Principal DAVIET stated that the modern day world is driven by science and technology and the need of the hour is to make scientific education accessible to the masses. He highlighted that the aim can be done by imparting scientific as well as technical education in the national and regional languages. He gave examples of telecom and digital revolutions and stressed that even a person not comfortable in the use of English should have a chance to become a part of knowledge economy that the government of India is trying to create. He also highlighted that DAVIET is committed to work in consonance with the national policy of spread of National Language so as to create responsible and conscientious citizens of the nation.
Engineer, Shiv Kumar Chaudhary, Deputy Director, CSTT highlighted the need for establishment of the commission and shared that it was established in 1960 to create terminology in national language to promote the spread of scientific and technical education. He also touched upon the fact that CSTT is committed to organize workshops, seminars, symposiums and publication of journals and books to achieve the aim.
Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar appreciated the efforts put in by CSTT to convert scientific and technical terminology in Hindi and regional languages. He stressed upon the fact that people sitting in major centers of learning might not be able to realize the significance of the work done by CSTT but those who are in remote areas and do not have access to English can benefit a lot from the initiative.
Prof. Lalit Awasthi, Director BR Ambedkar NIT Jalandhar highlighted the need to teach subjects in Hindi. He gave examples of countries like China and Germany and stressed that promoting Hindi will not only facilitate learning but will also develop a distinct Indian identity.
The inaugural function was attended by Dr. Sonia Chawla, Dean Academics and Head Department of Business Administration, Dr. Sudhir Sharma, Dean RIC and Head Department of Electrical Engineering, Mr. Gaurav Dhuria, Head Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Parveen kakkar Head Department of Computer Application, Dr. Amit Sharma Asstt. Coordinator, & Mrs. Shivani Vij Assistant Coordinator & the participants from various institutions and Faculty of the institute.
