Chandigarh, June 16, 2017: BJP National secretary Tarun Chugh today claimed that 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made its impact felt in Punjab too and the situation in the state has improved a lot.

Chugh, who is the convener of National Task Force of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' campaign, was addressing separate meetings of district conveners of the campaign in Punjab and Chandigarh.

He said that Modi government had earmarked 100 districts with worst Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in the country and started efforts to improve the ratio which has shown results. He said the government, encouraged by the results, has now included 60 more districts in the campaign.

Coming back to Punjab, Chugh said Sangrur, which had 863 girl children in the year 2014-15 now had 883 girls in 2015-16.

The BJP leader said in Tarn Taran the number of girls in 2014-15 was 870 which rose to 880 in the year 2015-16. Likewise it rose from 874 to 884 in Gurdaspur, 878 to 888 in Barnala, 885 to 895 in Mansa, 893 to 903 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 894 to 904 in Ferozepur, 910 to 920 in Mohali, 915 to 925 in Amritsar and 929 to 939 in Muktsar.

"No doubt, there was still a huge difference but the government and the volunteers were working to improve the situation further," he said.
