Ludhiana, December 16, 2012: Controversy has arisen over the appointment of Uday Singh as the Administrator of Namdhari Sect after the death of the Sect’s Head Satguru Jagjit Singh on December 13 evening.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, the International Namdhari Sangat president Navtej Singh Namdhari and chairman Jaswinder Singh have categorically refused to accept the decision of the Satguru’s wife Guru Mata Chand Kaur of appointing Uday Singh as the Administrator of Namdhari Sect.
Further, both Navtej Singh and Jaswinder Singh told that they did not accept Uday Singh as the Administrator of Namdhari Sect. They said they wanted that Uday Singh’s elder brother Thakur Dalip Singh be appointed Head of the Sect.
They alleged that the Uday Singh’s name had been announced under some “pressure” by Guru Mata Chand Kaur.
They also regretted that the body of Satguru Jagjit Singh had been cremated in a short period whereas huge “Sangat” was to arrive from abroad for attending the cremation ceremony. They said the Satguru’s death was announced at around 7 pm on December 13 and within short time it was also announced that cremation would take place on December 14 at 2 pm at Bhaini Sahib. “A large number of Sangat had got their air tickets aboard for attending the cremation”, they said, adding the Sangat felt regretted after they failed to arrive here from abroad within a short time for attending the cremation ceremony.
They said the Sangat had the right to appoint “Guru” after the death of Satguru Jagjit Singh, adding therefore, let the Sangat decide it on the Satguru’s Bhog ceremony scheduled to be held on December 23.
Satguru Jagjit Singh had passed away in a local hospital On December 13 evening due to prolonged illness. He was 92 years old.
The Namdhari Sect has its headquarters in Bhaini Sahib, a nearby village. The Guru had his mass following in and abroad.
Both Uday Singh and Thakur Dalip Singh are the nephews of Satguru Jagjit Singh.
