Dharamshala, March 10, 2017: Mr.Syam Thapa, Ex International footballer who is presently working as Technical Director to C&FC Kesoram Football Academy has offered his services as the technical advisor and visiting coach to the purposed residential Football Academy of Himachal at Dharamshala. Thapa who built his house recently in Dharamshala (His in-laws city) said,” Yes, if HP government agrees, I am ready to work for this proposal, defiantly for Himachal and particularly for Dharamshala , the lovely city.”
Thapa said that he is sure that in the residential academy comes up in Dharamshala ,he can produce best players( of India and for India ), from here in five to eight years of time, because the most suited environmental and climatic conditions available at Dharamshala. While talking to this Correspondent at Dharamshala on Friday Thapa said, "No one at top posts of government is serious about football in India accept in Kolkata, this only cause of Indian Football’s downfall. “It is not only the duty of single Tata academy in such large India to care for this game,” he added. “If all the State of India starts just a single residential football academy, these two dozen football factories can put India on the recognition table of world football.”
He agreed that the cricket must flourish in India but not at the cost of other sports. He blamed NIS and its sister organizations by saying that it is the rare waste of money. Thapa said , “keeping sports person at the edge and establishing IAS & IPS officers on the key posts of these sports institutes is a joke with sports person and sports planning in India.”
He said that football is a still a craze in India and added, “ every sports lover enjoys world cup football matches on TV in India and wish that Indians too be a part of this sport.” He said that if governments of India and its states start seriously thinking about football, no one in this world can stop the Indian caliber to be a part of top ranking.
He said, "Because of the neglect of football in India ,the powerful tournaments like Durand and DCM have vanished. We need more Neeta Ambanis and ISLs to uplift this lovely sport called football.”
Syam Thapa was the Member of Indian team, which won Bronze in VI th Asian games at Bangkok in 1970, played for India from 1970 to 74. He is better known as key player for East Bengal and Mohan Bagan Kolkata for 13 years between 1966 and 84. Thapa later become coach of East Bengal from 1985 to 1990, Indian youth team(1988),all Nepal Football Association (2004-10) , Technical Advisor to Tata academy Jamshedpur (2009-10) and so on.
