NRI Commission issues notice to Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas

 Chandigarh, August 29, 2012: The NRI Commission today issued notice to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on a complaint filed by Baldev Singh , who hails from District Moga, but a British Citizen and holds PIO (Person of Indian Origin) card.

A spokesperson of the Commission today said that in his complaint Baldev Singh alleged that many benefits have been given to the Persons of Indian Origins with regard to their stay in India, but they cannot live without having a Gas Cylinder for cooking, for which, one has to apply with a declaration that “I am an Indian Citizen” and since he is not, he could not apply for a Gas cylinder, which frustrates his intention to stay in India for a longer period. He said that the Claimant seeks only relief to the extent that in the declaration, where it was written that “I am an Indian Citizen”, OCI/PIO card-holders should be incorporated.

He said that the NRI Commission issued notice to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to look into this issue and asked to file a reply on or before 5-10-2012 , so that PIO/OCI card-holders can be benefited in this regard.

He further said that a copy of this order be sent to the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to take up this issue at their own end also, for the benefit of said categories of persons
