OPINION- Preserve value of historical monuments of Shaheed Udham Singh

Shaheed Udham Singh’s native house is located in Sunam of Sangrur district where every year the entire government machinery gathers to observe the martyrdom day of the martyr. But hardly any initiative is made towards the development and maintenance of this historical site anointed with pictures, manuscripts and other articles of value.

The concerned archeological department atleast needs to upgrade the historical museum of Shaheed Udham Singh’s and should be duty bound regarding the articles of historical value and national monuments, which are supposed to be preserved and maintained with dignity. It’s a matter of deep concern that monuments of national value that too of ace freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh and several other historic documents have been found totally neglected at the hands of the archeological authorities (in Sunam), this shows what respect we have for our historic heroes who dared their lives for the freedom of the country. Atleast we should try to learn from other countries who leave no stone unturned in upkeeping their historical monuments as one of the principles of life. Its pity on part of authorities having failed to have a check on the security of the historical monuments. We all should remember an old saying, “Those Countries or States who can’t preserve their history or culture will perish”.
