PADDY PROCUREMENT: Procurement on full swing in Punjab

Chandigarh, November 10, 2012: Paddy procurement is on full swing in Punjab. Government agencies and private millers procured more than 12304591  tonnes of paddy till last evening. The State Government has set up more than 1770  procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.

The spokesman of the Punjab government said that Out of total procurement of 12304591  tonnes of paddy in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 11715596 tonnes of paddy till date whereas private traders procured 588995 tonnes of paddy. Till November 9, PUNGRAIN procured 3434180  tonnes (29.3%), MARKFED procured 2648843  tonnes (22.6%). whereas PUNSUP had procured 2692719 tonnes (23.0%) PSWC procured 1193770 tonnes (10.2%) whereas PAFC was able to procure 1215514 tonnes (10.4%) of paddy.The Central Government agency FCI had  been able to procure 530570 tonnes (4.5%). 

The spokesman added that District Ludhiana with 1446744 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Sangrur  with 1361037  tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Patiala  with 1164846  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
