PAK VISIT: Sukhbir’s spontaneous visit to food street of Lahore

Lahore/Chandigarh, November 8, 2012: The spontaneous visit of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to famous Food Street of Lahore stumped everybody.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who is on five day visit to Pakistan, spontaneously decided to visit Food Street during late evening hours just to have feel of the street and to relish some world famous street food there. Pakistani people enjoying food in the street were surprised to see Punjab Deputy CM there and there was competition amongst food hawkers to persuade Deputy CM to relish the famous products.

Badal accompanied by Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and his Cabinet colleagues enjoyed famous Gol-Gappa’s of the street. He also had a quick dinner sitting in the Court of Food Street. Badal liked vegetable biryani, paneer saag, haryali vegetable, paneer saag with steaming hot poori and chana. Khalid Butt of ‘Zaika’ counter informed Deputy Chief Minister that chicken kabab, chicken biryani and kadai chicken were the most demanding products in the street.

Badal appreciated the ethnic look maintained by the Lahore City and asked Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Rajat Aggarwal, who is part of the delegation, to conceptualise same type ‘Food Street’ for Amritsar and put up the proposal for the same.

Mian Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Education Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab, informed steps being taken by the Government to maintain the originality and historic look of the food street besides other measures to maintain the its original character.
