Ludhiana, February 18, 2013: J. B. Singh, 63, presented to Vasan Eye Care on February 2, 2013 with chief complaint of Defective Distance Vision both eyes (right eye more than left eye).

On examination his best corrected vision in right eye was 1/60 and left eye was 6/18.

Further, on examination he was found to have cataract both eyes (right eye more than left eye)

According to a release issued by the hospital here on Monday, on fundus examination there was suspicion of Optic nerve weakness however because of advanced cataract in right eye, details were not clear. Patient needed further evaluation for that after surgery only because the cataract was in advanced stage and this was explained to the patient.

In view of significant advanced cataract in Right Eye he was planned for right eye cataract surgery with lens implantation under “Guarded Outcome for Vision” (doubtful chances of visual recovery) because of his fundus findings.

Patient was operated on February 6 for Cataract. The surgery went well and the patient was implanted one of the world’s best lens. He was discharged on the same day.

On follow-up on February 14, patient’s vision in right eye improved to 6/60. Patient is now planned for investigations for optic nerve functioning.

Doctor who has operated  has done his MS Ophthalmology from PGI, Chandigarh and has till now done approximately 5000 successful cataract surgeries and nearly 2,000 Retina Surgeries, the release said.
