Ludhiana, April 24, 2015: The Department of Vegetable Science of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has been awarded a research project entitled Marker assisted selection for multiple disease resistance in greenhouse tomato’ by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India under Women Scientists Scheme –A (WOS-A). The project aims to develop tomato cultivars resistant to late blight and root knot nematodes, suitable for greenhouse cultivation. The project carries monthly fellowship of Rs 50,000 for a period of three years and working contingency. Dr Manisha Dubey is the Principal Investigator of the project and Dr M.S. Dhaliwal, Sr. Vegetable Breeder-cum-Head, Department of Vegetable Science will be her mentor. Dr B. S. Dhillon, Vice- Chancellor, PAU and Dr Balwinder Singh, Director of Research, congratulated the young scientist and her mentor for successfully competing for the research grant.
