PAU gives warm send off to controller of examination Dr B.S.Sohal

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a farewell function to bid adieu to Dr B.S. Sohal, Professor of Biochemistry and Controller of Examination, who attained his superannuation today. On the occasion, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; senior officials; and faculty of the University shared their recollections and wished Dr Sohal a happy and prosperous post-retirement life.

Ludhiana, November 28, 2014: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) organised a farewell function to bid adieu to Dr B.S. Sohal, Professor of Biochemistry and Controller of Examination, who attained his superannuation today. On the occasion, Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU; senior officials; and faculty of the University shared their recollections and wished Dr Sohal a happy and prosperous post-retirement life.

Dr Dhillon hailed Dr Sohal’s 31 years of commendable service in the University. He said, “Dr Sohal has served in various capacities at PAU and discharged his duties diligently. He has maintained the dignity and integrity of his office as Controller of Examination.” Dr Dhillon further described Dr Sohal as an excellent teacher, efficient administrator, and an active member of various organizations.

Dr P.K. Khanna, Registrar, acknowledged Dr Sohal for being kind, generous and sympathetic throughout his career at PAU.

Dr Gursharan Singh, Dean Postgraduate Studies highlighted the achievements of Dr Sohal, and told that he is a PAU alumnus who has also served as Additional Director Communication of the University.

Dr Sohal, who was accompanied by his family, expressed his deep regards for the University officials and members of faculty. He thanked everyone for being supportive and cooperative, and for appreciating his dedicated services at PAU.

It may be mentioned that Dr Sohal has worked in the area of biogasification and biochemical basis of disease resistance in field crops. He was the first to introduce e-lecture series in modernising teaching at PAU and his passion for teaching fetched him Meritorious Teacher Award 2002-03 of PAU. A national fellow of Indian Society of Agricultural Biochemists, Dr Sohal has been actively involved as Secretary of Society for Advancement for Academics, Sports and Cultural Activities (SAASCA) and PAU Science Club. He has rare qualities of achieving excellence in sports and was adjudged as Best Athlete of College of Basic Sciences and Humanities in 1978-79 and fastest man of University in 1978-80. He acted as technical official twice at the Asian Cycling Championship, held in 1989 and 2005 in India.
