Ludhiana, October 27, 2012: BPCL emerged as the champions of men section of Perfect Real Estate All India Sahibzada Ajit Singh Hockey Championship 2012 held at Olympian Pirthipal Singh Hockey Stadium at Punjab Agricultural University, here today.

In the women section, Central Railway emerged as champions of Prof Nirpjit Kaur Gill Memorial Trophy.

 In the final match of men section, BPCL defeated Punjab National Bank by 5-3.

 The scorers for BPCL were Hari Prasad who scored in 12th minute, Ravi Paul in 19th minute, Gurpreet in 24th minute, Amir in 56th minute and Arman in 59th minute of the match.

The PNB team fought a close game and missed several good chances of scoring. It seemed that the PNB team started playing good hockey only in the last minutes of the match as PNB captain Jalwinder Singh Toni was the first to score in 62nd minute of the match. Lakhwinder Singh scored a goal with the help of a penelty stroke in 66th minute while Ashish Pal scored in the last minute of the match.

The winners of men section have won themselves a prize money of Rs 3.75 lakh, which is the highest ever amongst all non government hockey tournaments held across the country. The runners up got 2.25 lakh as prize money.

Central Railway Mumbai eves clinched the prestigious Prof Nirpjit Kaur Gill Memorial Trophy by drubbing Chandigarh XI team by 4-1.

The winners were given away prizes by singer Satinder Sartaj, PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Ranjit Singh Talwandi, MLA and Olympian Pargat Singh.

Vandana Kataria of Central Railways played a marvellous game of hockey as she scored two goals for her side- in 39th and 64th minute of the game.

The match started with both teams fighting hard for Rs 1.5 lakh prize money and Prof Nirpjit Kaur Gill Memorial Trophy. It was Pratibha Sawant who opened the account for her team Central Railways Mumbai in the 15th minute. Vandana Kataria scored the second goal for her team in 39th minute with the help of a penalty corner. In the second half, Saundarya of Central Railways scored another goal in 52nd minute. The only goal for Chandigarh XI was scored by Pooja in 58th minute of the match. This goal was scored with the help of a penelty stroke. The last and fifth goal of the game was scored by Vandana Kataria in 64th minute. In the end, it was Central Railways Mumbai which scored victory.

Before this game, Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala eves defeated Gwalior XI team by 3-0. First and second goal of the match were scored by Deepika Thakur of RCF in 31st and 33rd minutes of the game. The third goal for RCF was scored by Sukhmanjeet Kaur in 49th minute.

In the women section, Vandana Kataria of Central Railway was the best scorer of the tournament, while Darshna of Chandigarh XI was the player of tournament. In men section, Ravi Pal of BPCL was the player of tournament and Gurpreet of the same team was best scorer of the tournament.
