Ludhiana, January 31, 2017: District Ludhiana will provide the pick and drop facility for the physically challenged and the 100 plus aged voters in the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections- 2017. Renowned Taxi company ‘Uber’ and the volunteers of Initiators of Change group will assist in this initiative taken by the district administration.
Presiding over the meeting regarding this, District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Sh.Ravi Bhagat, in his office, said that district administration is itself trying to contact the physically challenged (blind and locomotive) voters and the aged voters crossing the age of 100 years in the related six constituencies (Ludhiana West, East, South, North, Central and Atam Nagar). Besides, the mobile application ‘ECI 360’ initiated by the district administration is also being registered by a large number of people. He said that in these six constituencies, 219 physically challenged voters have been contacted and the effort is being made to have contact with the voters crossing 100 years of age.
Sh. Bhagat said that voters crossing 100 years of age can contact on helpline no. 0161-5016278 anytime for the pick and drop facility. After registration, they will be contacted and provided facility by the district administration itself. Besides, any voter can avail the opportunity by just paying Rs. 40. The facility of Uber Taxi will be provided within the radius of 5 kilometres from the voter’s residence in the city itself.
He further said that two polling booths would be established inside the Kushut Ashram for the people suffering from leprosy situated at the Islam Ganj area in the city to ensure their voting possible. Besides, arrangements for the medical facility for these voters, if any, have also been done by the health department. Tehsildar Sh. Lakshay Sharma, Social Security Officer Smt. Inderpreet Kaur, District Public Relations Officer Sh. Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal, Assistant Vice and Economic Data Advisor Sh. Charanjit Singh, Young man Sh. Gauravdeep Singh and many others were also present on the occasion.
