On Tuesday, Minister Technical Education & Industrial Training, Sr Charanjit Singh Channi visited University to check the functions of different departments. He checked examination section minutely and to set a benchmark of examination reforms, he announced steps on the spot and passed the instruction to University functionaries to implement the same in a short time period. His first step is to have cent percent control on copying and CCTV surveillance to each and every examination centre of University. The control of this surveillance will be at University's head quarter. He said that if a centre is caught under in flying checking, examination centre head and invigilator on duty, both will face strict action.

His next step instruction was related to revaluation reform. He said if a student has got marks hike from his first checked paper and it is on fact basis than first examiner will surely face action. Even University will start to take consent from student if he/she want to see his/her failure examination answer sheet, University will provide his/her answer sheet online.

In addition, IKG PTU is soon going to start projects on Incubation Centers. The government is planning to invest an amount of Rs. 25 crores on this project. At the same time, an increase worth 5 crores has been declared in the budgeted expenditure on Innovation funds.

The syllabi of various courses being offered at IKGPTU main campus shall be brought at par with the syllabi of IITs. To effect the revolutionary changes in the field of technical education in state, these decisions were taken by Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi, on spot.

He said, "The aim of State Government is to provide an international exposure to the students of Punjab so that they need not move overseas for higher studies. The government is going to constitute a regulatory board to strictly monitor the functioning of private universities being run in the state. We shall not compromise with the quality.

The minister further added that the procedures are being made to provide the benefits of Chief Minister Scholarship plan to the students getting admission in IKGPTU. The government will not tolerate the existence of such technical institutes/colleges in the state which allure the students from state and outside state for admission in the name of SC/ST and other scholarship schemes and are hampering the growth of quality technical education in the state. He shared that the system of IKGPTU has got adversely affected because of opening up of large number of colleges with lesser amount of control. Our focus shall be on quality institutes not on their large number, said Channi. Neither new college/institute nor new courses shall be approved this time.

The technical minister further said that the primary goal of IKGPTU is to provide only the technical education and courses of Humanities shall be made out of the curriculum being taught at technical institutes. Punjab Government shall enforce strict regulation on all the technical institutes/ colleges of the state to provide the best training exposure to their students.
