Ludhiana, November 3, 2015: Punjab Medical Education & Research and Local Bodies Minister Mr Anil Joshi today said that For upgradation of Medical Education & Research, an amount of around Rs 197 crore spent on Government Medical College Amritsar, Rs 100 crore on the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot and Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Rs 122 crore on the Rajindra Medical College and Hospital Patiala. He said this would give thrust to medical education and research in the state.
      Mr Joshi said this while addressing the students on the occasion of White Coat Ceremony and Freshers Welcome Function at Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College Hospital and Research Institute, here today. Mayor Mr Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria was the guest of honour on the occasion.
      Mr Joshi further informed that 61 new Certificate/Diploma and Degree Courses have been started in Medical Colleges by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. He said that Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao programme was launched in a big way and public awareness on drugs issue, Swachh Bharat Mission were being taken care of with the slogans being printed on the stationery envelopes of all Councils under the Medical Education Department.
      He further said that doctors play a very important role in today';s society and they should always perform their duties in an honest and upright manner. He urged the students to work hard in life so that they can bring laurels to this institution whose main aim is social service.
      Mr Joshi also said that for overall development of all cities and towns of the state, funds amounting to Rs 4,000 crore would be spent. He said that Rs 500-600 crore would be spent on the development of Ludhiana city alone.
      Prominent among those present on the occasion included college chairman Baba Jaswant Singh Ji, Deputy Mayor Mr R D Sharma, college directors Dr Amanpreet Singh and Dr Anudeep Kaur, college principal Dr DS Kalsi, Mr Amanjot Singh Gohalwaria, besides several others.
