Punjab CM approves Rs.2.24 crore for ‘free of cost construction of septic tanks’ for weaker sections of society

Chandigarh, December 29, 2013: In order to provide the benefit of sewerage system being installed in the 98 villages of state to the weaker and disadvantaged sections of society, the Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has sanctioned Rs 12.24 crore for the ‘free of cost construction of septic tanks’ in these houses.
Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that this facility would be provided in 98 villages of the state where the work of laying down the sewerage system was being done through the World Bank aided scheme of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation. However in order to extend the benefit of this scheme to the weaker sections of the society, the Chief Minister has decided to sanction Rs 12.24 crore for the ‘free of cost construction of septic tanks’ in 13599 households in these villages.
As per the decision of the Chief Minister all the Scheduled Caste families, BPL families, small farmers and families having a handicapped or women head would be entitled for availing the benefits of this scheme. The entire cost of this major pro-poor initiative would be borne by the state to facilitate the weaker sections of the society, added the spokesperson.
