Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh State Youth Awards being conferred on the youth of the State who have excelled in one or the other youth activity.

Chandigarh, March 28, 2013: The Punjab Government today conferred Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh State Youth Awards on the youth of the State who have excelled in one or the other youth activity.

Eight such young persons were awarded at an impressive function organised at the Shivalik Public School, Mohali, to commemorate the Youth Day. Punjab Chief Parliament Secretary of Punjab Government Narinder Kumar Sharma presided over the award giving function. 

Jagga Singh, Ms Renu and Amandeep Singh from Mansa, Jindpreet Kaur from Bathinda, Maninderpal Singh from Mohali,  Mandeep Kaur from Ropar, Gurkaran Singh from Faridkot and Khushmeet Kaur from Ludhiana District are the young persons who got these prestigious awards.

After bestowing the awards, Sharma exhorted the youth to actively participate in national building by taking initiative to eradicate social evils.  He said that Youth had the infinite energy which, if channelised and utilised for constructive purposes, could be a great human resource.  Sharma said that the State Government was committed to encourage the youth in every aspect. The awards given to the youth after the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh were the little recognition for the great role being played by our new generation for uplifting of society, he said. Congratulating the awardees, Sharma called upon them to work more aggressively for the betterment of the society as well as the State.

Prof. Chaman Lal from Jawaharlal Nehru University threw light on the various distinctive aspects of the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Elaborating the ideology of Shaheed-e-Azam, he highlighted the unique features of his vision which inspired the youth to lay down their lives for freedom of the country. He called upon the youth to come forward for wiping out the menace of injustice, inequality and communalism from our society.

While presenting the vote of thanks, Punjab Youth Services Director Hidaipal said that Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh State youth awards were given every year to those youngsters who have excelled in any youth activity. A medal, scroll and cash prize of Rs. 20,000 is given to every recipient of the award, she said.

More than 100 young boys and girls donated blood in specially organised blood donation camp. Essay writing and painting completions were also held on the occasion.
