AYUSH hospitals provide all medicines free of cost to the patients

Chandigarh, June 7, 2017: The Punjab Government has decided to establish 2 AYUSH hospitals with the capacity of 50 beds each under AYUSH mission scheme. The standardize health services of indoor and outdoor of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy would also be provided in these hospitals.

Disclosing this here today Minister for Health and Family Welfare Punjab Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that construction of AYUSH hospitals would soon be initiated by state government with the cost of Rs.12.5 crore.

Minister further said that with the tireless efforts of officials, the Punjab Government is all set to start thalassaemia treatment centre of Ayuveda at Ludhiana and Rs. 36 lacs have been sanctioned to establish this centre. He said that first of its kind initiative, the treatment of thalassaemia would be provided to the patients at this centre. The Minister observed that earlier the patients ofthalassaemia had been going to the Gujarat for getting this treatment. In order to provide treatment services of thalassaemia in Punjab, a special training had been imparted to 7 AMOs (Ayurveda Medical Officers) at Ahmedabad (Gujarat) and Now thalassaemia patients would soon be getting Ayurvedic treatment at the Ludhiana Centre.

Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that keeping the view of significant value of Ayurveda, the Punjab Government has also chalked out a programme to restore the pristine glory of Ayurveda. Under this programme, emergency services would also be introduced at the Ayurveda Hospitals. In fact deliveries, treatment of migraine, snake bite etc. and others emergency services in different states have proved successful.

He said that 463 rural & 47 urban government Ayurveda dispensaries, 17Swasth Kendras, 5 Ayurveda hospitals, 1 Panchkarma centre, 1 Yoga and Naturopathy Unit at Mohali and a Drug Testing Laboratory under central scheme at Patiala are already functioning in the State. He said that Ayurveda medicines were being checked in the drug test lab to enhance the standards and all medicines provide free of cost in the AYUSH Hospitals.

Health Minister said that the patient-centric approach of the AYUSH systems of medicine has significant potential for finding solutions to States’ public health challenges. The Punjab Government will continue to make special efforts to promote these Systems.
