Chandigarh November 7, 2015: In bid to skilled the farmers with the latest agriculture techniques The Punjab government has established a Centre of Excellence for Vegetables at Kartarpur in Jalandhar district.
Director Horticulture Dr.Gurkanwal Singh said that this ultra modern Centre has been built with Rs.9.73 crore over the 15 acre of land. This centre would not only educate the farmers from the new trend in the agriculture but also will play an important role in the diversification of the agriculture in the state. He further said that the farmers have been trained with the latest technique to develop and produce the disease free seeds of vegetables. He informed that 8000 farmers have visited in this Centre till date and 15lac sampling has been distributed to them.
He said that training programmes for one day and three days were arranged for the farmers to provide the training about the all relevant techniques for the protected cultivation of vegetables. The information and knowledge of drip system, Green houses and by other latest techniques also is the part of the training.
He further said that last year also Disease- free hybrid seedlings of Capsicum, Brinjal, Tomatoes and Cucumber etc were provided to the farmers.
