Chandigarh, September 30, 2013: A total no of 20,900 patients were examined during the 2 days Mass Cancer Screening and Treatment camps organised in all the District Hospitals of Punjab and the Medical Colleges of Patiala, Faridkot and Amritsar.

This was stated here today by Director Health Services, Punjab Dr. Ashok Nayyar. He revealed that many types of tests and medical examinations were conducted by Specialists and Super-Specialists during the camps. He said that among the major tests conducted during the camps included 827 Pap smear tests, 833 FNAC, 1586 Ultrasounds, 353 Mamography tests and 1192 X-rays, besides number of other investigations.

Dr Nayyar said that 150 patients were such clear cut cases of cancer who had shown up for medical examination for the first time. The results of the investigations of remaining patients will be revealed as soon as they are available. He said patients in camps were examined by a team of Specialists and Super Specialists of cancer from India & abroad and expert consultation were provided to the needful. Available tests during the camps were done free of cost.
