Chadigarh, September 30, 2013: An EX-servicemen Cell  has been established at Army HQs to address the problems of  Ex-servicemen exclusively.

This was announced by Army Chief General Bikram Singh at an Ex-servicemen Rally held at Jalandhar yesterday where 13000 Ex-servicemen, Veer Naris and their dependents were present.

Army Chief lauded the contribution of Punjabis towards the Armed Forces and urged younger generation to join the Indian Army.

While disclosing here Brig. Manjit Singh, Director Defence Services Welfare  said the  Army Chief  also re-iterated Army's commitment and concern for the well being of the widows and handed over  Activa Scooters to 25 Physically challenged veterans,   400 widows and Veer Naris and 150 Ex-servicemen and were also honoured on the occasion.  23 Ex-Servicemen were given marriage, last rites and penury grants as well.  Chief also mentioned about the He assured them that the shortcomings in prevalent ECHS system will be addressed in right earnest.

Highlighting the schemes run by Kendriya Sainik Board and Directorate of Defence Services Welfare, Punjab,  Brig Manjit Singh, reassured the Ex-servicemen community that the Directorate will reach out to all the Ex-servicemen and continue to take steps to review and further improve the support and facilities being extended to them.  He enlightened them of the scheme launched by Punjab Government whereby the disabled Veterans can be given specialized equipments.

On this occasion senior serving and retired officers were also present.
