Punjab News- State government to focus on road safety campaign more vigorously

Chandigarh, September 24, 2013: To check the road accidents in the state for saving the precious life of people, the Punjab Government was laying stress on the road safety campaign across the state in an effective manner.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of Punjab Government said that rate of road accidents taking place in the state despite of excellent road infrastructure in the state, was very high as every year almost four thousand persons were killed in these accident, beside huge loss of property. So it was imperative to control these accidents. 

The Spokesman further said that high speed vehicles, non compliance of rules, overloading and ignorance toward the road safety are the main cause of accidents. It is the high time to change the mindset of the drivers so that they could have total control on their vehicles by limiting the speed according to the rules. He said that although the Drivers were well aware of these rules but they are ignoring them while driving. So in order to educate the drivers, students and other road users it was appropriate time to boost the road safety campaign with big way. The seminars and other mode of educating the people are going on in the state but the Punjab Government taking the road accidents issue very seriously and it directed to the concerned departments to drive the road safety campaign with effective and result oriented manner.
