A team of experts led by Dr.N.S.Malhi, Vice-Chancellor and consisting of Prof.Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Director (Planning & Development) and Dr. Bhagwant Singh Chahal, Senior Horticulturist from Guru Kashi University pay a visit to Takhat Shri Damdama Sahib on Wednesday.

 

Talwandi Sabo, November 20, 2013: A team of experts led by Dr.N.S.Malhi, Vice-Chancellor and consisting of Prof.Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Director (Planning & Development) and Dr. Bhagwant Singh Chahal, Senior Horticulturist from Guru Kashi University paid a visit to Takhat Shri Damdama Sahib today to examine the deteriorating condition of historical ‘Jandiyan’.

They met Singh Sahib Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh and discussed measures to be adopted to save the Botanical heritage not only at Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib but also in other historical Guru, Dhams in the state of Punjab. The members of the team were given Siropas by Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh.  

Giani Balwant Singh Nandgarh stated that it is absolutely essential to save our Guru-Dham’s botanical heritage as they remind us of the contemporary historical events of that time. If we save and take case of such trees,we will not only be rendering service to the society but also contributing towards the preservation of our history.

During discussion Dr.Malhi  opined that it was possible to save the deteriorating trees through scientific methods provided the devotees and the managing bodies take precaution as per advice of the scientists. In fact water & grains being offer to “Jandiyan’ by the devotees was the major cause of deteriorating condition of the historical trees.

Prof.Gurbhajan Singh Gill, Director (Planning & Development) stated that if we do not save and nourish this botanical heritage, we will be held responsible for their deplorable conditions by the coming generations. Ignoring this means ignoring history. The team headed by Dr.Malhi also appeals to president, SGPC to build a Botanical park at ‘Talwandi Sabo-a historical place named Guru Ki Kashi by Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh in addition to Botanical park at Machhiwara become the trees grown at both these Maces are Quite distinct having different kind of properties.
