Chandigarh, January 31, 2017: In a clear manifestation of the growing support for the Congress in the poll-bound state, the Ration Depot Association Punjab (Regd) has also extended its support to the Punjab Congress under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh.

The association, through its president Surinder Shinda, said it had unanimously decided to support the Congress in the assembly polls. The announcement followed Shinda’s meeting with Captain Amrinder, who assured the association that there interests would be taken care of, and genuine demands would be conceded, once the Congress comes to power.

Shinda said their decision to support the Congress was motivated by their shabby treatment by the SAD-BJP government. He said the 28,000-odd ration depot holders in Punjab were facing extreme hardship, with even their genuine demands being ignored by the Badal government. He complained that instead of giving them a commission of Rs 147 per quintal, the state government was giving them merely Rs 25 per quintal.

Among the key demands of the association is fixing of a monthly honorarium of Rs 11,800 for every depot holder, said Shinda, appealing to all depot holders across the state to vote only for the Congress.
