PUNJAB to set up six new mother and child hospitals: Mittal

Chandigarh, August 4, 2013: Punjab Government to establish Six new Mother and Child hospitals in the state for providing specialized health care, particularly obstetric care and paediatric care Hospitals during the Financial Year 2013-2014.

Divulging this here today, Madan Mohan Mittal Health & Family Welfare Minister, Punjab said that government to spend Rs 80 Crore on this project. He added that these specialized hospitals would be of high professional standards and would be fully equipped with all diagnostic and clinical facilities of health care.  He said that the Mother and Child Hospital is a specialized facility for providing high quality healthcare services to women and children.

Health Minister said that these hospitals would be established at Mata Kaushalia Hospital Patiala, Civil Hospital Amritsar, Civil Hospital Bathinda, Civil Hospital Jalandhar, Civil Hospital Ludhiana and District Hospital Barnala. He said that work for five hospitals is in progress and tenders for DH Barnala have been floated.

Mittal said that at MKH Patiala 100 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 18 Crore, at CH Amritsar 73 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 11 Crore, at Civil Hospital Bathinda 50 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 10 Crore, at CH Jalandhar 50 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 10 Crore, at CH Ludhiana 100 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 20 Crore and at DH Barnala 50 additional bed capacity being created with Rs 11 Crore.

He said that all treatment would be free at these hospitals and incentives would also be given to the pregnant ladies who give birth to their children in these hospitals. He further said that children would also be treated free in these special treatment hospitals. He said that with the completion of these hospitals 423 additional bed capacity would be created.
