Punjab withdraws Mohd. Afzaal as Member of Punjab Wakf Board

Chandigarh, May 28, 2014: The Punjab Government has withdrawn Mohd. Afzaal from the post of Member of Punjab Wakf Board with immediate effect.
According to an official spokesman, this decision was taken in the wake of Punjab and Haryana High Court order in civil writ petition no 16966 of 2010 and 17703 of 2011. He said that on the directions of Court an inquiry was conducted to find that whether Mohd. Afzaal was a Shia or a Sunni. The spokesman informed that it was found in the enquiry that Mohd. Afzaal was not a Shia Muslim but he belongs to Sunni Sect of Muslims.
The spokesman said that on the findings of enquiry the notification no 6/32/2003-6JUD(1)/3166 dated 9 September 2010, whereby Mohd. Afzaal was nominated as member of Punjab Wakf Board was withdrawn with immediate effect.
