Pushpa Gujral Science City at Kapurthala on Tuesday celebrates Earth Day.

Kapurthala, April 22, 2014: Next generation Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV) technologies developed by Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) has made possible mapping and metrological data analyses of high altitude snowcapped Himalayan  mountains, which was earlier very difficult and limited as it was done manually in treacherous inhospitable terrains with the use of satellites  it was still difficult to get accurate data due to multi facade terrain and pinpointing of the area.

These UAV provide geo-intelligence in the higher reaches of Himalayas with better spatial, spectral and temporal resolution. This was expressed by Sh. Jimmy Kansal, Deputy Director, SASE on the occasion of Earth Day Celebration at Science City.

On this occasion, Dr. RS Khandpur, Director General, Pushpa Gujral Science city, said that every year, April 22 is celebrated as "Earth Day" to increase public awareness about  the environment. Earth day should be used as a powerful catalyst to involve people in making a difference towards a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future. The celebration reminds us to protect the Mother Earth in every possible way. He asserted that if we all put our best foot forward to stop the rampant global warming, we can certainly have a better future.

This 18 meter diameter theatre has been set up in a dome shaped building with the seating capacity of 125 persons. It will provide the visitors an unforgettable experience aiming to sensitize the audience about the currently debated subject of Climate Change and Global Warming. Visitors have  made aware of and have a better understanding and appreciation for the latest climate science and the issues surrounding the human role in climate change.

The theatre provides a unique experience showing videos on two screens – flat and dome shaped and illuminating the static and moving objects along with special light and sound effects, as the video displays storyline of the film.  The 25 minute film explores what a worst-case future might look like if humans do not take action on current or impending problems that could threaten civilization.
