CHANDIGARH, MAY 25, 2017: Raghunath Singh, a UIPS Research Scholar, has been selected for highly competitive and prestigious IBRO-APRC International Short Stay Fellowship.
Raghunath is pursuing his doctorate degree under the esteem supervision of Dr Anurag Kuhad, Assistant Professor of Pharmacology, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh The fellowship will cover his international airfare, accommodations and all other expenses at Brain Research Institute Monash Sunway, Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences in the lab of Dr.Tomoko Soga, Monash University, Selangor, Malaysia and awarded fellowship of $2,500. During this fellowship, he will extend his PhD research work entitled “Involvement of TRP channels in antipsychotics-induced metabolic alterations in mice”. Metabolic syndrome is a major adverse effect of antipsychotic medication, and is major cause of disability, subsequent reduction in life expectancy and poor patient compliance.
During his stay at Monash University he will try to unveil the role of TRP channel modulators on feed reward anticipation in antipsychotics-induced metabolic alteration. His research will strengthen scientific understanding and will provide therapeutic alternative in treatment of weight gain associated with antipsychotics.
