Ludhiana, August 6, 2015: 15-year-old Rajvir Singh, a resident of Siarh village of the district, has made the city proud by clinching two gold medals in cycling events held at Special Olympics World Games held in Los Angeles (USA). He, along with other seven medal winners of the state, were welcomed by the District Administration at Railway Station, here today. Rajvir is a student of Special Resource Centre for disabled children at Government Primary School, Siarh.
SDM (East) Mr Paramjit Singh, District Sports Officer Mr Satpal Singh, District Education Officer (Primary) Mr Gurjot Singh and other senior officers of the district administration welcomed all eight medal winners from Punjab amidst beats of Dhol. The eight participants from the state have won a total of 10 medals, including three gold, two silver and five bronze, in different events.
SDM Mr Paramjit Singh informed that Rajvir Singh has made the country proud by winning two medals in one kilometre and two kilometre cycle racing events. He said that Rajvir';s teachers told him that he is a very hardworking student. Rajvir has worked really hard to achieve this feat and would continue to bring laurels for the country in the years to come.
Mr Gurjot Singh informed that all expenditure on Rajvir';s training, education, diet and travel has been paid by the Punjab Education Department. He informed that the other students who won medals in Special Olympics World Games are Taranjit Singh from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, Pawandeep Singh from Ropar, Dolly from Amritsar, Meera Kumari from Ropar, Ajankaya Nikam from Jalandhar, Jaswinder Kaur from Fatehgarh Sahib and Shalu from Amritsar.
