Patiala, June 26, 2014: Despite nonstop hard work, struggling to ensure two squares meal, a poor family had never imagined that their adorable son (9 years) would turn to be a drug addict. This is a real story of a family residing in village Rasulpur Saidan.
Prince (name changed) always remained the ‘apple’ of his parents’ eyes but could not study beyond two classes. He along with his 7-8 friends started buying drugs from a karyana shop at the tender age of 7 years and the insatiable shop keeper without realizing the consequences was selling those drugs just for a negligible margin turning them in to hard core addicts. The bunch of these innocent kids were regularly purchasing drugs from that very shop and were consuming it at different secluded places. These kids after consuming drugs became so fearless that they even used to jump in Bhakhra Main line without any hesitation.
The Punjab government’s zero tolerance approach against drugs and major emphasis on de-addiction of die hard addicts came as whiff of fresh air for such innocent lives. A gentleman after taking Prince’s illiterate parents in to confidence brought him to Saket De-addiction Centre and everybody including doctors attending him was stunned after knowing the ordeal of this 9 year old kid. In last two weeks under the 24 hour supervision of expert doctors, Prince has finally started showing the hope for living a normal life soon.
At Saket centre along with other guys admitted there for de-addiction, Prince starts his day with yoga and other light exercises followed by nutritious food. Such addicts were being given counselling to re-arrange their live forgetting their past misdeeds. His parents were anxiously waiting for him but with a resolution to never to let him slip him from their hands. The hopeful parents expressing their gratitude towards the Punjab government were now quite confident about the success of this new initiative of state government.
District Police administration has been making all out efforts to find his associates to take them for de-addiction besides making lists of those responsible for selling drugs to book them thereby saving the lives of such innocents.
