REGISTRATION for training women and children for their self-defence

Ludhiana: March 3, 2013: Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar today started registration for training women and children for their self-defence while holding aflower show and painting competition here in Gurdwara Sahib Complex, according to its president Jatinder Singh Sandhu and convener Mohinder Singh Grewal.

The Flower Show was organised as a starting point to lunch a movement for improving environment as per the teachings of the 7th Sikh guru Guru Har Rai Sahib, who was a great environmentalist of his times. 

The function was presided over by Dr Inderjit Kaur of Pingalwara Bhagat Puran Singh (chief guest), Gatka Queen (blind) Bibi Rashap Kaur (guest of honour), DS Gill (chair IHRO), Dr Maan Singh Toor and Gurdwara president Jatinder Singh Sandhu.

A mixed Martial Art demo was held at the start of the function where Bibi Rashpal Kaur too marshalled two events with Kirtan and stressed the need to focus on Khalsa martial art with Gatka training. She called upon women in general and children in particular to arise Baba Banda Singh Bahadar and Mai Bhago from within.  While poetess Gurdish Kaur Grewal eulogising Mai Bhago stressed upon to oppose present Ravans tooth and nail.

Environmental activist Bibi Satvir Kaur of the EcoSikhs spoke in detail about the need to preserve our environment taking Guru Har Rai as a model. She also called upon all Sikhs to celebrate Guru Gaddi Divas on March 14 as Environment Day in gurdwaras.

 A great enthusiasm was seen in the children who participated in the painting competition on the theme of environment and trees and flowers named in the Guru Granth Sahib or in the concept of environment.  Dr Maan Singh Toor praised the participants, especially younger children who did their best about Gurbani in their paintings.         

The prizes in the flower show were 52 categories including seasonal flowers, foliage plants, cacti succulents and Bonsai. A competition was also held in the home gardens of Sarabha Nagar in three categories namely above 1,500 sq. yards, 500 to 1,500 sq. yards and below 500 sq. yards.

A competition was also held amongst the public parks situated in Sarabha Nagar.

The prizes in the competition were distributed to the winners by the chief guest Dr. Inderjit  Kaur where Shingar Singh, Joginder Singh Nagpal, Secretary Harinder Pal Singh, Vice President Surinder Singh Sethi, Balbir Singh, Bibi Ravinder Kaur, Satvinder Singh Lit, Jsspal Singh Thukral, P.S. Chawla, Sukhdev Singh Laaj and Charandeep Singh were among those present.
