Hyderabad, January 12, 2017: Remote Controlled Kite Flying demonstrated first time in India at a special night flying curtain raiser event at People’s Plaza held in city on Thursday evening.

Mr. Chandulal, Minister for Tourism, B. Venkatesh, Tourism Secretary, Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, Head of Aga Khan Academy, 71 professional kite flyers from France, Indonesia, South Africa, Japan, Singapore, Singapore, Australia, Scotland - UK, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Italy, Ukraine, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Poland graced the curtain raiser event.

Seven member team of goflykite.com from Singapore showcased remote controlled kite. Though the Kite Festival is being held in Gujarath for the past 25 years, remote controlled kites were never flown, informed B. Venkatesham, Tourism Secretary. Hyderabad has the distinction of being the city where remote controlled kites are flown for the very first time in India. And that too at a special night flying event said B. Venkatesham.

Dragon and four other kites were flown amidst the cheers of the thousands of audience who gathering to witness remote controlled kites as well as to experience night kite flying. These kites were flown for ten minutes. This is a revolutionary concept. These kites were flown in Singapore, Thailand and other countries but never flown in India. The joy of remote controlled kite flying offerd a new experience to many twin citians. These kites were not dependent on wind but instead use propellers powered by rechargeable batteries” , Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, Head of Aga Khan Academy informed.

The Singapore is team comprised of Mr. Michael; Mr. Lim Koh Leong; Mr. Darren Duriel Suan Jun HuiMr. Foo Fang Yaw; Mr. Pei Tee Hiong; Mr. Suan Cui Fu; Mr. Chong Yi Liang; Mr. Tan Juan Chew; Ms. Teo Geok Muin.

According to Mr. Michael of goflykite.com, these remote controlled kites may cost anywhere in the range of Singapore dollars 360- to 600.

Speaking on the occasion B. Venkatesham said “we want to celebrate Kite Festival as the public festival. We would like to give wholesome experience of the festival. Kite 2017, the international kite festival henceforth will be an annual event, he informed.

Speaking further he said, Helicopter rides are being introduced with more flexible pricing. If we receive good response, we will make to all through the year. Hyderabad will be the first city to have Heli Tourism, he added. We want to make “Hyderabad the City of Festivals”, he said.

When asked about state government plans of introducing amphibian flight in hussain sagar lake as announced some time ago, he said, the cost of the water plane was very high. We are studying alternative ways of the same. We have not shelved the project. But, it will take some time to get a concrete shape, he disclosed.

Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, Head of Aga Khan Academy informed that 71 kite flyers from 20 different countries and ten different cities of India are participating in the festival. We would, if government agrees, like to make this an annual event, he informed.

Telangana Tourism is extending KITE into a week-long festival spread across four districts and expects a total footfall of 50,000.

•Friday 13th – Inclusive Schools Program @ Aga Khan Academy
•Saturday 14th& Sunday 15th – 2 days of family fun and kite flying @ Aga Khan Academy
•Monday 16th – KITE 2017 in Yadagirigutta
•Tuesday 17th – KITE 2017 in Warangal

KITE 2017 festival is organized for the cause of women's empowerment through girl child education. It aims to raise the tourism profile and rich cultural heritage of Hyderabad as a ‘hidden jewel' of India by attracting renowned international kite flyers from 20 countries and 10 pan Indian clubs to Telangana State.

Telangana Tourism and Incredible India have joined hands with Hyderabad-based Aga Khan Academy to host this event at sprawling 100 acres campus of Aga Khan Academy which is situated near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in city outskirts near Shamshabad.

Royal Kite Flyers Club, India's leading international kite flying group. It is a Non Profit Kite Flying Association of India by Kite Flying Clubs and Professional Kite Flyers in India is guiding the event. It has been providing Kite Flying Activities for Individual, Corporate and Educational Institutes, participated in events at Malaysia, Indonesia, Dubai, and Singapore.
