Chandigarh, February 16, 2014: National Forum for Youth Welfare held its seminar on Welfare of the Youth at Institution of Engineers, Chandigarh today which was organised by Punjab Irrigation Retired Engineers Association. It was presided over by Dr R.P Bhardwaj, Former Director, Punjab Technical University & Former Principal Doaba College, Jalandhar. Prof. K.N. Pathak, former Vice Chancellor, Punjab University was the chief guest. Professionals and intellectuals from all walks of life participated.
Chief Organiser of the forum Er. K.L. Bhargava expressed concern about the plight of unemployed qualified and educated youth and the rising unemployment which is driving them to crime and drugs.
Dr. R.P. Bhardwaj lamented that no long term planning to channelise and harness the energy, talent and aptitude of the youth was seriously formulated which was further aggravated by absence of job oriented and lack of value directed education, poor quality of academic as well as professional and practical education. This serious task was left at the mercy of profit oriented commercial academic and technical institution charging exorbitant fees on admission which are churning out students with no practical skill. Also there is absence of work culture and hard work which makes them to build castles in the air and they crave to become rich overnight. They appear to be losing faith in the democratic system which is likely to create a situation of lawlessness and anarchy in the country and hence a grave danger to society and peace loving citizens. Everyone is running to earn more and more depriving the code of values.
To consider a viable solution of this problem, five sub-committees were formed which, after interacting with the students and their organisations, will evolve proposals to be submitted to the central and all state governments soon after forthcoming parliament election.
A.C Sharma I.A.S (Retd) Principal S. Chaudhry, Er. Narender Sharma C.E. (Retd.), Gurnam Singh, A.K. Datta IPS (Retd.) and Er. Bhupinder Singh also spoke on the issue.
Summing up the deliberations, Prof. K.N. Pathak stressed that the prevailing situation demands that the intellectuals and professionals should rise to the occasion and join their heads together to suggest a viable solution for solving the problem by imparting multipurpose/special training to make the youth employable so that they become an asset to the nation.// Chandigarh news online,  Chandigarh news in English, Chandigarh news,  Chandigarh current news,  Chandigarh news live, Chandigarh breaking news, Chandigarh headlines, Chandigarh latest news, world news,
