A workshop on uses of Ultrasonography in Emergency and Critical care was organized at SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana on Friday.

Ludhiana, February 15, 2013:A workshop on uses of Ultrasonography in Emergency and Critical care was organized at SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana on Friday.

This workshop was organised as preconference workshop of 5th National Assembly on Pediatric Emergency Medicine, which is being hosted by the Indian Academy of Pediatric- Intensive care chapter, Punjab State branch and organized by Society for Trauma and Emergency Pediatrics.

Aim of this workshop was to bring awareness amongst the paediatricians, intensivists and emergency physicians about uses of ultrasonography at the bedside and use it as a tool to early diagnosis of life threatening conditions. Ultrasonography can be used at bedside not only for the diagnostic purposes, but also for the procedural and therapeutic purposes.

The workshop was attended by approximately 50 delegates from all over North India. Special care was taken to discuss the physiological differences in adult and paediatric population separately. These topics were helpful for all the doctors who are working in primary care centres, paediatricians, anaesthesiologists, emergency physicians and those who are working in tertiary level intensive care units.

SPS Apollo hospital has taken this initiative to conduct these kinds of workshops in all over north India and this was first of its kind. Mr. Jugdiep Singh, Managing Director, SPS Apollo Hospitals stated that the organization is committed to conduct continuous medical educational programmes regularly to strengthen the health facilities in the region. He also added that this kind of workshops will improve the quality of care of the patients and reduce the complications.

The faculty for the conference included Dr. Dhiren Gupta from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, Dr. RK Singh from Sanjay Gandhi PGI, Lucknow, Dr. Mohit Singla from Canada, Dr. Arun from Chandigarh, Dr. Abhishek from Jalandhar, Dr. Pardeep Sharma from SPS Apollo Hospitals, Ludhiana. Dr. Vinay Singhal from SPS Apollo Hospital, Ludhiana was the course coordinator for the workshop. He added that the participants have learned various aspects of the use of ultrasonography during the workshop. It includes from basic physics to its uses for central line placement, echocardiography, lung USG and USG for trauma. Dr. Vikas Bansal, the organizing secretary for the conference said that USG for bedside monitoring is a fast developing modality and it is needed to increase the awareness in medical community for the bed side uses of ultrasonography. Workshop was also accredited by Punjab medical council with four CME hours.
