Dharamshala, November 30, 2017: Tibetan Youth Congress, a worldwide non-governmental organization of Tibetans is launching a nationwide grassroots level campaign among the Indian people on the undeniable cultural and historical bond between Tibet and India, and the strategic importance of relation of Tibetan Independence with the security interest of India. The month long campaign in the form of Bharat Jagran Yatra, will start from three different cities McLeod Ganj (Dharamshala), Salaugara (West Bengal) and Chennai on Dec 10, Coinciding with the World Human Rights Day and will cover over 150 towns and cities all over India.
The 'Bharat Jagran Yatra' campaign aims to raise awareness on the Tibet issue and garner support of the Indian people and government leaders to recognize that Tibet was historically an Independent country and is currently an occupied nation by the communist government of China. This month long campaign will include travelling from village to village, towns to towns and cities to cities where at each stop; public rally, press conferences, distribution of pamphlets, signing of petitions, and advocacy work will be organized.

TYC President Tenzing Jigme told in a press conference in Dharamshala today, “Along with the awareness campaign, the organization will also carry out an appeal campaign. The three main appeals include appealing to the Indian people to urge their MLAs to take up the Tibet issue in their respective legislative assemblies, to the Indian government to review its policy and recognize Tibet as historically an Independent country currently under the China’s occupation and to urge Indians and Tibetans to boycott Chinese products.”
(TYC) is an international non-governmental organization that advocates the independence of Tibet from China, with around 30,000 members in the Tibetan Diaspora and 87 branches in 10 countries listed on the organisation's website. It is informed to the press that as it is an awareness campaign, the largest pro-independence organization has arranged 10 lakh pamphlets in six different languages – Tibetan, Hindi, English, Nepali, Bengali and Kannada, to be distributed.
TYC plans to submit the signed petitions to the central government in New Delhi at the end of the campaign.
The documents carry information about Tibet, why Chinese products should be boycotted, affects of Chinese policies on Tibet’s environment and how it affects India and Southeast Asia and how Tibet’s independence assures India’s security.
“Along with the documents we have DVDs on the self-immolations taking place in Tibet since 2009 and a docudrama on life story of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We believe that through these documents and DVDs we will be able reach and not only educate the minds but also the hearts of the Indian people,” Jigme said.
In places where Tibetans have settled or where Tibetans have set up winter sweater businesses, TYC will hold talks and candle light vigils as well.
“As of now we have tentatively set the campaign duration to 30 days. However, it could take more than expected. The conclusion will be finalized among the sub-committee heading the campaign in different regions. The last leg of the campaign will be in New Delhi where we will carry out advocacy works,” said TYC VP Tamdrin Serchoe.

Tibetan Youth Congress, asserts that Tibet’s independence is the safest guarantee for India’s security and peace along the Himalayas. TYC President Tenzing Jigme stated that, “it is in India’s interest that New Delhi officially recognizes Tibet as an illegally occupied nation and leads a regional coalition to pressure China to resolve the issue of Tibet. The buffer zone has now become a war zone and if we want a zone of peace in the region then Tibet must be Free”.
