Ludhiana, August 10, 2017: Students of NSS and NCC 4B Punjab Battalion from Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana planted 100 saplings of various local species including Dek, Neem etc. Giving a brief about the activity, NSS incharge Prof.Deepinder Singh said 5000 saplings of various varitries were given by the forest department to GNDEC. Out these , the student volunteers under the guidance of Prof.Jaswinder Singh, Mechanical Department planted more than 3000 saplings in villages around Ludhiana. Dr. Harwinder Singh, Officer-in-charge NCC said that the plants planted by NCC cadets are actually adopted by these cadets and they are supposed to monitor their growth during their stay at the college for full duration of their course. Dr. M.S. Saini, Director of the college said that planting of these saplings would induce a whiff of fresh air to the campus and Ludhiana city. He appreciated the efforts of NCC and NSS volunteers and asked them to ensure that the plantation is taken care of so that the trees do not die prematurely.
