Ludhiana, July 29, 2012: Today Punjab State Power Corporation Limited imposed 4- weekly day offs on induction/arc furnace and 3 weekly day offs on general industry falling under Category -2 and Category -3.
In a statement here today, the United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) president Gurmeet Singh Kular said industry was already passing through recession and was working hard to sustain its existence. Besides, the industry had been badly hit by the acute power shortage.
“We strongly resent with this fresh move of PSPCL which is against the industry and public in general”, he remarked.
Further, he said PSPSL had increased tariff of electricity by 12.8% which was too high and that too from retrospective effect from April 1, 2012/ He apprehended that this step too would ruin the industry and would face closure and migration to other states.
He urged upon the government to to take immediate measures to give relief to the industry to save it and economy of Punjab as well.
