WCK 2012: Canadian men and Demark women team secured 3rd rank

Jalandhar / Chandigarh, December 13, 2012: Two qualification matches in men and women category for the third position were played Jalandhar today.

In men section Canada got the third position defeated Iran by 51-35 point difference where as Denmark team emerged victorious beating England with the point difference of 36-28.

Dr. Mohammad Abassi, Sports Minister of Iran and Ajit Singh Kohar, Cabinet Minister Punjab were formally inaugurated the match between Iran and Canada whereas Sarwan Singh Phillaur, Cabinet Minister Punjab was formally inaugurated the match between Denmark and England after having introduction with the players.

Chunni Lal Bhagat and Sikander Singh Maluka (both Cabinet Ministers) were the guest of honour.

In the qualification match in the men category Canada out smarten Iran and decisive victory with the point difference of 51-35 and registered third place in the medal tally. Canada has to satisfy with the third position whereas it was the runner up team in 2nd World Cup. Playing up to the level of their strength Canada defeated Iranian team in the qualification match and got third position.

Canada defeated Iran with margin of 51-35 points. At the end of 1st half Canada was leading with 27-16 points.  Raiders of Onkar Singh, Ravi Sarai and Kulwinder Kinda Beharipuria got 12, 9 and 7 points whereas its stopper Hardeep Tau, Kuldeep Keepa and Aman scored 8, 4 and 4 points respectively. Raiders of Iran Mohammad Alireza scores 8 points whereas its stopper Asghar bagged 7 points.

In a hard fought battle, Denmark which was earlier considered to the underdog finally emerged victorious defeating England in a match that aroused the vibrations of the jam packed Guru Gobind Singh stadium, Jalandhar today.  In women category Denmark team managed to outclass English team and stands third in the medal tally. Denmark snatches this qualification match from the hands of England with point difference of 36-28.

Winning the qualification match against England, Denmark women team secured third position in the medal tally. It was neck to neck fight. At the end of 1st half Denmark team was leading with the difference 19-16 points. Raiders of Denmark Marie and Anne Sofie scored 9 and 7 points respectively whereas its stopper Tersa and Marie Wisburg bagged 10 and 6 points respectively. Raiders of England Shelly scored 5 points and its stopper Rozana Rozy and Ashley Hunter bagged 5 and 3 points, respectively.
