Chandigarh, June 3, 2017: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today warned Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Education Minister Aruna Chaudhary not to meddle with the functioning of Inder Kumar Gujral Punjab Technical University.

BJP National Secretary, Tarun Chugh today said that a conspiracy was on to discontinue certain courses under political considerations alleging that these were 'RSS backed' courses.

Chugh alleged that the newly formed Capt Amarinder Singh-led government in the state was trying to impose Congress culture in educational institutions. He said his party would oppose the labeling and victimisation of academicians and also not allow the Congress government to encroach upon the rights of Universities.

He said it was an attempt to curb nationalistic and patriotic thoughts without giving a thought to the hard work put in by researchers who designed these courses for introducing a value-based curriculum of the University.

Chugh claimed that the hard work and research of nearly 7 years by the researchers was being ignored while conspiring to order closure of MTech in holistic development system and technology, a PG diploma in human values and PhD in human values, all of which were started in 2014.

The BJP leader said his party won't allow the closure of these courses as these were in tune with the values and culture of the country and the state and even the courts have held that the students need to be taught about human values besides the subjects of their choice.
