To celebrate World Diabetes Week, the Department of Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, organising Diet exhibition in the Medical O.P.D. of Fortis Hospital Ludhiana on Saturday

Ludhiana, November 7, 2015: Every year 14th November is observed and celebrated as the World Diabetes Day. On this day, many years ago, the Discoverer of Insulin Dr.Fredrick Banting was born; so this day is observed by the Health Care Professionals as homage to this great scientist and also to emphasise on the importance of ‘Education’ and ‘Prevention’ aspects of Diabetes.  Taking the lead towards observing this week with the vision of creating awareness among the masses especially under the leadership of Department of Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, organised a first event on Saturday with Poster and Diet exhibition in the Medical O.P.D. of Fortis Hospital Ludhiana. Staff presented an invocation song and an educative skit related to the theme.

Programme was held under the supervision of Dr. Ankush Mehta, Medical Superintendent, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.

Dr. Harpreet Brar, Admin Head, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana emphasized on the importance of primary prevention and treatment in order to control the endemic of Diabetes in India which is known as the World Capital of Diabetes. Ms. Dimpy Komal (Registered Dietician) Chief Dietician Fortis Hospital, Ludhiana also spoke on various aspects of this chronic and dangerous metabolic disease.

Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Senior Consultant and Head, Department of Endocrinology, Fortis Hospital Ludhiana said Audience were overwhelmed by the statistics i.e. 40.9 Million people have Diabetes in India alone followed by 39.8 Million in China and 19.2 Million in U.S. The death rate due to diabetes & its complications is increasing at an alarming rate. The 2025 predictive study shows that if not controlled, Indians will comprise of 80% of all diabetics all over the world.

Patients their relative, Fortis Hospital staff & employers found the programme very interesting and educative & appreciated the hard work put. Most of the Doctors and staff vowed to participate in controlling Diabetes and Protecting their Future!!

Also present on the occasion were Mr. Vivan Singh Gill, Facility Director, Mr. Shivraj Nakai, Head HR Departmen, Ms.Aakriti Sangar, Clinical Nutrition and Dietetic Department Fortis Hospital Ludhiana.
