World Down Syndrome Day Celebration at Ashirwad

Ludhiana, March 24, 2017: Standing up for themselves, the special students at Ashirwad presented a colorful show to mark the world Down Syndrome Day, observed today at the center.

Jaskaran Singh was oozing with confidence as he welcomed the guests as was Tejinder singh when he introduced the Chief guest ADC (D) Apneet Ryait. Neha who being the host of the show turned out to be a complete charmer.

Ishika, Harsimran and Daksh enthralled the audiences with their poetic recital.

The makeover of the students followed by the Ramp walk wowed the audience.

Not to miss the efforts made by Simarjot Singh, proposed a vote of thanks.

It was indeed an effort towards “Inclusion" of specially abled in the mainstream society the motto with which Ashirwad came into inception.

Mrs Harmeet Waraich, Principal Nakana Sahib Public School who admitted a child with cerebral palsy from Ashirwad, was also present on the occasion.

Other highlights of the event being Dr Vibhu Narad's talk wherein she gave an introduction of Down Syndrome and medical problems with DS while Dr Neelam Sodhi`s talk on adolescence issues and self advocacy was an eyes opener for one and all attending the event.

Mrs Honey (the special educator) spoke on the significance of early intervention.

Overwhelmed by poignant moments that were an integral part of the event, ADC(D) Apneet Ryait motivated the students and the staff at Ashirwad, promising to extend every possible help from the district administration. She said more people should be sensitized to the needs of person with disabilities. Each individual has strengths and the need is to focus on what they can do rather than on what they cannot do. Citing the example of trainees at Sashakt canteen and the computer centre at Ashirwad she emphasised that given an opportunity and training they can do much more.

Last but not the least, the team of Sashakt Canteen were the star caterers as they meticulously took care of the gastronomical needs of the guests.

Mrs. Geeta Nagrath Dirctor of IIFT, Mrs. Sanam Mehra (Advisory Board Member of Ashirwad) and Mrs Harjeet Rekhi were present on the occasion.
