Ludhiana, August 9, 2017: The Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (Ministry of Textiles, GoI) has welcomed the decision of Government for reduction of GST from 18% to 5% on job work in textiles sector.
The Council’s chairman Sushil Kaura said today, “This 5% rate will be applicable for job works in apparel, shawls and carpets. This is a major relief for the garments sector.”
He added, “WWEPC is also thankful to Minister of Textiles Smriti Zubin Irani for taking up this matter. With this relief garment sector in India will see a major jump in coming days and can compete in international markets to boost exports of wool and woollen blended products.”
He added in the unorganised textile sector, almost 75 percent depends on job work such as stitching, trading and other associated work.
