Ludhiana, December 30, 2016: The Ludhiana district as well as "Smart City" Ludhiana has set an example in the country in terms of developing people friendly and easy mobile applications as well as several other initiatives that can help the public in a big way. The Punjab government, Union Government as well as several other prominent organisations have appreciated the efforts of District Administration for all this work.
Ludhiana became the first district of the state that has developed maximum number of mobile applications in the country that are widely used by a large number of people. District Administration's one of its kind mobile application "i-revenue" has been nominated for the final list of "Manthan Award South Asia 2016", that would be conferred to the winners during the Surajkund Mela to be held in Haryana on February 25, 2017. This mobile application is the only programme of the Punjab government that has been nominated for this International level award.
Deputy Commissioner Mr Ravi Bhagat informed that mobile app "i-revenue", information related to revenue department such as collector rate, stamp duty, Right to Service Act, M-Fard and other such important information can be sought. This is the only app of the state in which all revenue record of District Ludhiana is updated and this can be used in entire state as well. This app has been developed for bringing more transparency in the working of revenue department and information such as collector rates, stamp duty and other can also be sought.
Ludhiana district has bagged five awards during the 46th Skoch Sammelan held at Hyderabad. Ludhiana became first district of the country to have won five awards in different categories at the same time. The awards have been conferred for SMS-based mobile application "i-sehat" (that has been adopted by the Union Government), mobile applications namely i-revenue, date2vaccinate, mum2be, irakt and Feebank, developing smart classrooms in government schools, and Sashakt canteen being run in the District Administrative Complex by special children. An NGO 'Ann Jal Sewa Trust' (Regd.) under the aegis of the district administration also initiated 'Food To Share' mobile app with the prime objective of putting a stop to the practice of wastage of food during marriages and other social occasions and feeding the needy persons with these. Another App ‘i-DTO’ was introduced exclusively for district transport office. This mobile app was developed for providing easy access to the facilities being provided by the District Transport Office.
Another mobile app "Mum2Be" has been developed for the benefit of expectant mothers who would be sent reminders about necessary tests, immunisation and medicines during their pregnancy days as well as after the delivery. This GPS enabled app has been linked with all hospitals and dispensaries of the Ludhiana district. He said that when the expectant mothers would get reminders, they would also get details about the nearest government hospitals and dispensaries. He said that the app would keep on sending reminders till the time the expectant mother gets her tests done, gets immunised or takes medicine.
Ludhiana became first district of state where 11 pink coloured eco-friendly E-Rickshaws to be driven by women/girls and for women/girls them. In another unique initiative District Administration installed several sanitary napkin vending machines in government schools in the district as well as in the women jail. "Senior Citizen DayCare Centre" and "Open Gym" at the Senior Citizen Home in Sarabha Nagar, here, that would benefit the senior citizens as both these projects have been developed as per the requirements of the elderlies. A diaper vending machine for senior citizens was also installed here. The District Administration has set up automatic e-toilets at two schools for visually impaired and physically challenged in the city. In a bid to connect directly with the city residents, the District Administration Ludhiana started its “Facebook” page, where the residents can see day-to-day activities of the district administration, as well as they can submit their suggestions.
With the help of an NGO, 400 blankets, 800 bed sheets and an automatic washer have been given to Civil Hospital. Besides, the Deputy Commissioner also distributed blankets to the needy and homeless on various occasions.
District Administration is also developing another mobile app on behalf of the Election Commission that would be launched soon.
Punjab Jails and Cultural Affairs Minister Mr Sohan Singh Thandal also inaugurated Punjab's first ultra-modern fully automatic bakery unit at Central Jail, here. This particular bakery unit has been set up with a cost of Rs 61 lakh and is first of its kind in the state and has a capacity of producing 15-20 quintals of good quality biscuits and other bakery products daily, which can even be supplied to other companies as well as other jails of the state.
For the benefit of common man, several "Sewa Kendras" have also been set up in all parts of the district. For promoting sports in rural areas of district, more than 70 Ultra Modern Sports Parks have been set up in different villages of Dakha constituency. These Sports Parks have been developed with the efforts of MLA Mr Manpreet Singh Ayali.
Union Cabinet Minister for Road Transport & Highways Mr Nitin Gadkari and Deputy CM Punjab Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal laid the foundation stone of three projects worth Rs 3212 crore, which includes a new Elevated Road for city, four-laned Ladhowal Byepass and four-laning of Ludhiana-Kharar Road. With the efforts of Irrigation Minister Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, a pond located opposite Civil Hospital, Sahnewal has been converted into a "Dream Park". Constructed on five acres of land, funds amounting to around Rs 1 crore have been spent on this project. This project has not only led to beautification of the area, but has also added to a slew of development projects completed in Sahnewal constituency.
Overall, the Ludhiana district dedicated majority of their projects for overall development.
