ZEE TV: Anokhi Jugalbandi

Tune in for the special episode on Saturday December 1st at 8 pm of Hero Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 for a mesmerising (once in a lifetime) performance by ace percussionist Taufiq Qureshi and mentor Shankar Mahadevan. True to its promise of bringing different experiences in the realm of music, Zee TV’s music reality show has the acclaimed composer, Taufiq, brother of table maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain and son and disciple of Ustad Allah Rakha. Taufiq’s trademark style incorporates body and vocal percussions to create unique rhythmic motifs standing across cultures. His sense of tones and his command over a wide variety of percussion instruments and styles is commendable.

This Saturday will be a 2.5 hour grand celebration from 8 pm to 10:30 pm themed ‘music is all around us.’ It is the first time that the top 10 contestants will perform in the single episode. All the Zee TV fiction show actors will be seen supporting their favorite contestants. The interactivity phase will also begin for the public to register their votes to get their contestants on the top.

Also present with the Hero Sa Re Ga Ma Pa live band is an innovative band six youngsters who call themselves ‘Mumbai Stamp.’ This band is conceived and formed by Taufiq Qureshi and creatively uses trash materials like bins, cans, buckets and tin boxes to explore rhythmic horizons. Rhythm originating from these non conventional instruments take the audience to an another level of energy and make it a spectacle to watch as well.

Taufiq in this episode, Mumbai Stamp uses different real life props as percussion instruments to enhance the quality of each performance. Taufiq was stumped by the talent on Hero Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 and says, “Main toh reality show mein nahi jaata hun, par aisa talent suna toh main pagal ho gaya…Aur maine socha ki zaroor iss show mein aaonga. (I never go for any reality show but when I heard such talent, I went mad. Then I thought that I will definitely go to such a show)

Host javed Ali presents the Top 10 contestants with Md Aman giving a spectacular performance singing bandish, Madhuri Dey sings hoton mein aisi baat main chupa ke chali aayi, Jasraj Joshi singing Titli Daboch Li Maine, Vishwajeet Borwankar singing Lallati Bhandaar, Zain Ali sings Chappa Chappa, Shehnaaz Akhtarwows all with his rendition of Dil Haara, Renu Nagar sings Albela Sajan, Arshpreet Kaur sets the stage on fire singing Aaj Ki Raat, Himanshu sharma sings Aisa Koi Zindagi and Jazim has eve one’s attention singing Kal Chaudhvi Ki Raat Thi. Sajid-Wajid, taufiq Qureshi and Shankar Mahadevan also do an impromptu beat boxing jamming and gets everybody on their feet.
