Illustrious Speakers for the day, at WRM 2017.

Mamatha Chamarthi, chief digital officer of ZF Friedrichshafen AG spoke on road safety and realizing Vision Zero for India

Mamatha Chamarthi, chief digital officer of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a global leader in driveline and chassis technology as well as active and passive safety technology, addressed the topics of safe roads and smart mobility at the World Road Meeting this week. The World Road Meeting 2017, an event organized by the International Road Federation was held in Delhi from 14th – 17th November, 2017. ZF was a sponsor of the event and presented its ‘Vision Zero’ technologies that aim to create safe roads and smart mobility in India.

Mamatha Chamarthi was a plenary speaker on day three at the event where she spoke about road safety and helping to realize Vision Zero at plenary session 3.

During her address, Chamarthi said, “According to a report on Indian road accidents conducted by the Indian Government, last year 11.8 per cent in total persons were killed in road accidents and 16.7 per cent in total persons were injured. Although the percentage decreased compared to the previous year, the number is still alarming. The government of India is bringing about many policy changes like switch to BSVI, push for electric vehicles and compulsory airbags & ABS in cars by 2019 which is directed towards creating smart sustainable mobility.

“Our vision fully supports the government’s aim for safer roads and cleaner cities. We offer the broadest portfolio of any supplier in the industry which contributes to delivering higher levels of safety and lower emissions. Furthermore, ZF has strong technical expertise and R&D competence in India, which helps us to develop innovative solutions for both local and global applications. We are proud to be part of the World Road Meeting which plays an important role in bringing together all the industry players under one roof and discussing solutions and technologies for future mobility.”

. ZF expanded its safety system portfolio with the acquisition of TRW in 2015. With it’s joint venture partner Brakes India, the company recently launched a localized version of its first-to-market EPB (Electric park braking system) and is further planning to localize electronic stability control systems. In addition, through modular and scalable techniques, ZF has tailored its occupant safety systems like airbags and seatbelts to help meet new safety standards in India.

Furthermore, ZF is also able to deliver e-mobility solutions from a single source like no other supplier: electric motors, plug-in hybrid transmissions, all-electric drives and power electronics for passenger cars, trucks and buses.

Commenting on the occasion, Suresh KV, Country Head ZF India said, “The four-day conference was a source of interesting ideas and knowledge on safe sustainable mobility. With the changing climate and rising population in India, it becomes imperative to plan the mobility of people and goods appropriately for minimizing congestion and other environmental impacts. The Government of India has always encouraged sustainable smart mobility. Focusing on Vision Zero will help to improve the safety and quality of life of our societies worldwide.”
