‘The hearts of Punjabis should not just tick – they should beat strongly’

Ludhiana, August 24, 2012: A free Cardio-Vascular Check-up Camp is being organised at the massive Army Complex – the AWHO Flats complex, Dugri, Phase 3, Opp BMV School, Ludhiana.

It is being organised by the Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery Department of the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.

The camp is on Sunday August 26 from 6 AM to 2 PM.

Dr Harinder Singh Bedi – Head of CTVS at CMC & H – said that the CMC is committed to providing super specialised services to the people of this region.

This camp is specifically aimed at providing much needed cardiac services to the distinguished ex Army people and their families who are living in this massive complex, senior citizens and in fact any one who would like a cardiac check up.

All patients will undergo a thorough examination by a super-specialist doctor alongwith special blood tests. All cardiac medicines will be given free of cost.

A unique feature will be the addition of a dietary consultation and of supervised yoga therapy for all patients and attendants.  It has been found that people who exercised regularly or performed yoga had their hearts in good shape, and had cholesterol levels and blood pressure under control.

Dr Bedi is very encouraged with these findings for they suggest that a simple regimen of exercise, prudent diet, weight control and regular checkups could indeed keep the hearts of Punjabis in good shape. He stressed that the aim of preventive medicine was – ‘The hearts of Punjabis should not just tick – they should beat strongly’.

Dr Abraham G Thomas – Director of CMC & H – said that the outreach programme of the CMC was a very active one and such camps are being regularly carried out.
