‘SA RE GA MA PA 2012’: SRK lifts Katrina in his arms

The Badshaah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, weaves his charm around the contestants and mentors of Zee TV’s ‘Hero Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012’ along with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma to promote ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.

This episode is dedicated to Yash Chopra and the contestants’ sings some golden melodies from his movies.  

Shah Rukh opens the episode by reciting the poem, ‘Jab tak hai jaan…jab tak hai jaan’.

It’s a field day for the contestants because Katrina suggests that since they are paying a tribute to Yash ji, they should not be judged in this episode!  Thus begins a musical evening full of fun, masti and nostalgia.

Arshpreet Kaur from Ludhiana is ecstatic when after her performance on the song ‘Tujhe dekha toh ye jaana sanam’, Shah Rukh walks up to her and waltzes with her, complete Yash Chopra style! Arshpreet gushed, “Sir, like everybody, DDLJ is my all time favourite movie. Ever since, I have been looking for Raj in every guy I meet, but had no luck…till today, you just made my dream come true. I saw my Raj.” Madhuri Dey from Kolkata had a special moment which will be etched in her memory forever. She sings ‘Yeh kahaan aa gaye hum’ from the movie ‘Silsila’ after Shah Rukh gives a prelude to the song by reciting the couplet ‘Main aur meri tanhayee…aksar ye baatein karte hain’.

Thanking Yashji for giving her first break, Anushka is bowled over by all the singers and the live music band that made every song even more magical to hear. After Shehnaz  performs on ‘Haulle Haulle’, the actress comes up on stage with Shah Rukh to do their signature steps on the song. Renu Nagar, fondly called ‘Pocket Rocket’ and Vishwajeet Borwankar together  singg  ‘Zaraa Se Jhoom Lu Main’ and have a great time learning the ramp walk from Katrina, Anushka and Shah Rukh. 

Shah Rukh shares many interesting anecdotes about his association with the legendary director-producer. He recollects an incident when he and a friend were watching ‘Lamhe’ in the theatre. “Those days, we didn’t have cell phones and my manager hunted me down to the theatre to announce that Yash Chopra wanted to meet me for his next movie. I got so excited that all of us left the movie midway and dashed in a car only to realize  a bit later that we didn’t know where we were heading… All three of us looked at each other and asked, “Par jaana kahan hai?”. I looked at my manager with heightened anticipation on where Yashji was waiting for us. He said, I don’t know where we are going right now…Yashji will meet you only day after tomorrow! It was hilarious!”.

A radiant Katrina picked up the guitar the moment she set her foot on the stage. She called mentors Shankar Mahadevan and Rahul Ram to help her get the tuning right! Katrina recalls her ‘Yash Chopra’ moment when Jazim sang ‘Tere liye’ from the movie ‘Veer Zara’. She said, ”I was watching ‘Veer Zara’ with friends and told them that one day, I will surely be a part of a Yash Chopra film and of course…my friends laughed at the thought! That wish has come true but the scene where Shah Rukh carries Preity in his arms to walk across a bridge did not happen.”

The moment Katrina says this, Shah Rukh remarks, “Well, I did get a chance to romance Katrina onscreen in JTHJ, but we didn’t have a scene where I could pick her up in my arms. And if she doesn’t mind, I would like to do that now. Katrina, waise meri biceps nahi hai..but I’ll try. Ladies and gentlemen, when I do this you’ll see tears in my eyes, but let me tell you these tears will not be tears of joy, but of the weight that I’ll be carrying ( ;) wink).” It ‘s a moment to behold when the dashing Shah Rukh Khan waltzed around with a shy Katrina and picked her up in his arms! Katrina also mesmerized everyone by playing the guitar on the stage while Shah Rukh shook a leg! Anushka declared that she is a huge fan of mentor, Rahul Ram and absolutely loved his band, Indian Ocean! The trio danced on ‘Ishq shava’and had everyone in the audience cheer them.
