Ludhiana, July 16, 2015: To inculcate counseling skills in teachers, ‘A compulsory training program for teachers’ was organized in B.C.M Sr.Sec.School, Sec 32-A, Chandigarh Road, Ludhiana in Conference Hall. The resource person was Ms. Aastha Sharma, a senior National Trainer in ‘Expression India’ (CBSE Empanelled Agency). For the institution students’ mental health has been a primary concern, as it is already equipped with a team of qualified counselors and further to sensitize teachers for the growing need and concern of youth and equip them with creative approache in the area of counseling. The resource person discussed adolescents’ mental health issues and other psychiatric problems. She also opined that “Childhood should be a journey, not a race” for the harmonious and holistic growth of children. She introduced the different parameters to know about the child and bring awareness regarding different types of behaviour which can help to distinguish problematic and non-problematic behaviour of a child. She provided various skills and techniques of counseling for better understanding of child’s emotions and feelings. Teacher should know the family, social and religious background to make the learning better. We see a lot of aggression in children and children who are being bullied needs adult to intervene and there is a need for the teacher to realize the inner ability of students to channelize their excess energy. Role play activity was conducted by providing case study of the child. Every teacher can make a difference in every person’s personality. It was quite informative. The Principal Mr. D.P.Guleria focused on the role of a teacher as an inherent counselor.
