100 per cent rural households of Punjab provided tap water connections: MP Sanjeev Arora
The Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna has made available State/UT-wise status of tap water connections in rural households under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) as on July 25, 2024, which reveals that Punjab is among 11 States/UTs where 100 per cent rural households have been provided tap water connections.
Ludhiana, August 1, 2024: The Minister of State for Jal Shakti V Somanna has made available State/UT-wise status of tap water connections in rural households under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) as on July 25, 2024, which reveals that Punjab is among 11 States/UTs where 100 per cent rural households have been provided tap water connections.
This data has been given by the Minister in answer to a question asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora.
As per the available statistics, a total 11 States/UTs namely Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Puducherry, Punjab, and Telangana are the states where all the households have been provided tap water connections.
As per the available statistics, a total 34.19 lakh rural households in Punjab have been provided tap water connection.
West Bengal is on the bottom across the country where a total 89.25 lakh rural households (50.92 per cent) have been provided tap water connections.
In a statement today, Arora said the Minister answered to his question that Government of India in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Har Ghar Jal to make provision of tap water supply to every rural household.
At the time of announcement of Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019, 3.23 Crore (17%) rural households were reported to have tap water connections. So far, as reported by States/ UTs as on July 25, 2024, around 11.78 Crore additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections. Thus, as on July 25, 2024, out of 19.32 Crore rural households in the country, around 15.01 Crore (77.69%) households are reported to have tap water supply in their homes.
