Ludhiana, October 25, 2024: As part of its drive to combat dengue, the teams have issued a total of 1,020 challans to violators by detecting larva during door-to-door inspections in Ludhiana, up to October 20.
During a meeting to review the measures being implemented against dengue, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal emphasized the importance of stricter enforcement of preventive strategies, which include issuing challans to homes and businesses where mosquito larvae are discovered. He noted that the larva teams have visited approximately 2.9 million houses and inspected around 5.3 million water containers, including desert coolers, storage tanks, tires, trays, tanks and etc. To date, Ludhiana has reported 187 dengue cases.
Jorwal highlighted that, in addition to the challans, the teams have conducted spraying in homes and other locations. The members of these teams are actively educating the public about how desert coolers, water storage containers, tires, overhead tanks, and broken pots can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes that spread diseases like dengue. They are also informing residents about the Aedes mosquito, which typically bites during the day, and sharing symptoms such as severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, and muscle and joint pains.
The Deputy Commissioner urged residents to keep all water storage containers covered and to wear long-sleeved clothing to prevent mosquito bites. He reiterated the need for strong and decisive action in the fight against dengue and called on local authorities, rural development agencies, and others to continue enforcing cleanliness standards and imposing penalties on those who fail to comply. He assured that the district administration is firmly committed to tackling this disease to ensure the well-being of residents.
